These lesions are rare but quite visible because of their bright color. They have partly been addressed in the chapter dealing with hyperpigmented lesions.

Lesions may be localized or diffused. In the presence of diffused lesions, associated involvement of the mucous and/or conjunctival membranes must be searched.

The yellow color can be the result of cutaneous deposits of fat, bile salts, drugs or toxic substances, and carotene; it can also be the consequence of the production of intradermal granulomas and/or alteration of the elastic tissue or a regressing hematoma.

A real orange color is very rare. It is found in juvenile xanthogranulomas. Amyloidosis and PRP (pityriasis rubra pilaris) may confer to the skin a diffuse orange appearance.
