Granuloma annulare

CASE 34

Granuloma annulare

QUESTION 34

A 45-year-old woman with a history of type II diabetes mellitus presents to the dermatology clinic for enlarging round lesions on the face and arms. She denies any other symptoms and has tried to treat the lesions with topical antifungals due to a concern for a fungal infection. She states this did not help and is concerned about possible transmission to other close contacts. On examination, there are multiple, well-demarcated annular plaques with central clearing on the cheeks and arms with a slightly raised border without evidence of significant scaling (34a, b).
