Extensive allergic reaction to a new wound closure device (Prineo^™)

Abstract

Background

New wound closure devices are being developed to permit rapid and safe skin closure. Cyanoacrylates have been especially useful as sutureless skin closure agents and facilitate rapid and easy wound closure. A two-component wound closure system (Prineo) consists of a self-adhering mesh and a liquid adhesive (octyl-2-cyanoacrylate). Allergic reactions to the adhesive alone have been reported, but a possible reaction to the combination product has now emerged.
