Clinical Differential Diagnosis






  • Drug eruption


  • Scabies


  • Bedbugs


  • Atopic dermatitis


  • Contact dermatitis


  • Urticaria stage of bullous pemphigoid


Histopathology


The first biopsy was from the trunk which showed spongiotic dermatitis, but no insect body was seen. A second biopsy was taken which showed features of an insect bite, and negative results for fungus in the Periodic Acid-Schiff stain. A third biopsy was taken from the trunk and extremities which did show an insect residing within the cornified layer (Fig. 32.2).
